Commune with nature at Joralemon Park

/ / Community

The continued string of warm, sunny weather makes me want to be outside. If you feel the same, Joralemon Park is a unique place to explore. It’s close by and generally quiet so you can commune with nature.

Here’s what I love most about this park:

Kids wading in creek

My family visited the park in late September.

1. The creek. The Hannacroix Creek runs through the park and it’s a favorite place to wade and look for wildlife. I know, I know…it’s November – so bring some rubber boots and go for it! The large rocks that protrude in spots are fun for kids to climb.

During the warmer months I’ve seen people in lawn chairs enjoying the shade and a good book by this creek.

2. The rocky outcrops. Throughout Joralemon Park are large rock formations. It’s fun to walk through them and explore.

3. The trails. There are numerous trails in Joralemon Park, some with trailheads along Starr Rd. You’ll see parking along the road for these. There’s a small cave, lots of huge rocks and a small bridge or two.

4. The playground. It’s small, but the littles will have a great time on the wooden boat and slides. There’s a pavilion nearby for a picnic lunch.

5. The tennis and basketball courts. The Town of Coeymans did an overhaul on the court surfaces and fencing recently. My kids and I like to play pickleball here. 🙂

6. Disc Golf. Joralemon Park has an impressive Disc Golf Course and is home to a league! People come from all over the area to play at this park.

7. Bathrooms. Hallelujah! There are new bathroom facilities at this park. Thanks to the Town of Coeymans for this investment.

8. Eck’s Farmstand.  This isn’t in the park, of course, but on my way to or from Joralemon Park I’ll swing into Eck’s Farmstand to stock up on fresh veggies and other local goodies they carry. I splurged and bought a beautiful wreath there recently. Very soon they will have Christmas trees, other holiday decor and lots of gift options available.

Eck’s carries Spirit Trading Company’s candles and maple syrup from nearby Crosstown Maple.

Joralemon Park is a peaceful park worthy of exploration all year long. Maybe I’ll bump into you there.
