Last weekend, my family and friends headed to Boathouse Grille in New Baltimore, and we discovered a place that delivers on both the food and the setting.
Located right on the Hudson River beside the Shady Harbor Marina, Boathouse Grille has a huge deck where you can sit outside, watch the boats bob up and down and enjoy the river views. There’s even indoor/outdoor bar service, with windows that open right onto the deck. It’s a fun, relaxed setup that makes you feel like you’re on vacation—even when you’re only a short drive from home.
The food was just as enjoyable. I had the quinoa grain bowl, which was fresh, flavorful and satisfying with perfectly ripe avocado and a Green Goddess-type dressing. Others in our group ordered the fish and chips and a cheeseburger, and everyone left happy. We definitely recommend the carrot cake!
I think my favorite part of the experience was the atmosphere. After dinner, it’s easy to imagine settling into one of the comfortable chairs around the fire pit, drink in hand, watching the sun move across the river and listening to the sounds of the marina.
And there’s plenty of reason to make a visit before the season comes to an end.
Still Time to Enjoy the Boathouse
The Boathouse Grille will close for the season on October 24, which means there are still several weeks to enjoy the river, the deck and the beautiful early-fall setting.

Stop by Thursdays from 4–5 p.m. for Thirsty Thursday and enjoy some time at the bar overlooking the river.

Friday nights bring live music, making the Boathouse an especially fun place to gather with friends and enjoy the evening.
🥂 Sunday Brunch
If you’re more of a leisurely Sunday kind of person, brunch is another reason to make the trip.
🌽 September 26 Farmers Market
And don’t miss the last farmers market of the season on September 26. It’s another great excuse to visit New Baltimore, support local vendors and spend some time by the river.
Whether you’re looking for dinner with friends, a family outing, drinks overlooking the water, live music, Sunday brunch or simply a peaceful place to spend a few hours, The Boathouse Grille offers plenty of ways to enjoy the last weeks of the season.
For us, it was a wonderful reminder that sometimes you don’t have to travel far to feel like you’ve gotten away.
We’re lucky to have beautiful places like this right in our own backyard.
